Frequently Asked Questions

Why do Pianos Need Tuning?

Pianos should be tuned one to two times per year because of the sharp fluctuation in humidity in New England.

  • In the winter the wood contracts because of the dryness and the piano goes flat.
  • In the summer the opposite happens: the wood swells and tightens with humidity and the piano goes sharp.

The ideal climate for the piano is 70 degrees Fahrenheit and 45% humidity.

How often should my Piano be Tuned?

Brand new pianos should be tuned every 3 months for the first year. Then typically every 6 months.

Tuning maintains the health, longevity, and resale value of the instrument, an investment in a cultural family heirloom passed down to future generations.
